What does everyone use for an underlayment to level your tank/control for pressure points. I was just at Menards looking for a couple mm thick piece of rubber and they didn’t gave anything that really looked like it would work.

The stuff I've seen most people use are the white or pink Styrofoam boards like you'd find in the home improvement stores (the foam "Insulating Sheathing" boards - people argue over which color should be used, but, personally, I'd go with the white, as to my knowledge it would be better for relieving pressure points), neoprene mats (like yoga mats), and polyethylene mats (GlassCages, for example, uses 3/4" inch white styrofoam by default, with an optional polyethylene mat upgrade).

The ideal thickness of the material depends on how big the tank is, but, for most tanks, 3/4" would likely suffice.

Thanks! My wife gets mad that I use our kitchen scissors on fish tank stuff…I can’t wait to see how she reacts when all of a sudden her yoga mat is under the tank!
Too funny. Got the "look" when mine saw her old yoga mat under one of my tanks. LOL

Most people use closed cell black PVC foam OR 1/8" Neoprene...

Would this work or is it too crushable? It’s R3 and about 1/2 inch thick.

If that's the pink, rigid foam, insulating sheathing, then I've seen a lot of people recommend it - so I'd imagine it would hold up fine. (As I mentioned, several people - including professionals - use the white insulating sheathing, and that stuff is a lot softer than the pink, so I doubt you'll find it getting crushed.)

It is the pink foam. I used it on last tank with no problems but given the size of this one and that I’m redoing the sump I thought I’d check.
