Hello this is my first post I just picked up a 200G tank off craigslist (for free) the guy I got it from was going to dump it I know its a bit tall for a reef tank the dimensions are 60" long 24" wide 32" tall 3/4" glass. I have 3 freshwater and always wanted a reef. I was just budgeting and all I have is the tank and stand I was looking for places where I could cut the cost of setup down a bit and the larger skimmers are very pricey I get they are worth it I was just wondering if I had a larger sump like the trigger sapphire 39 looks like it has a larger refugium could I get away with sizing down a skimmer?

(sorry is this is the wrong thread for this)

Welcome to R2R!

IMO undersizing is better than oversizing when it comes to skimmers. But you want to be somewhere in the ballpark. I wouldn’t put a skimmer rated for 100g on your tank.

Thats a good size for reef unless you have short arms. It really depends on what youre doing. If it's heavily stocked you need a stout skimmer and a fuge. If you're more reef than fish then you can get a little smaller.

Just an observation. You're looking at a $500 sump. Grab a used 55 -75 and make you're own. I'd buy a nice used quality skimmer as well. Here's another thing diy algae turf scrubbers don't need much space and do a great job. PIA to get setup at first but work really well once you get then going.

I've heard of the different types of scrubbers but I always thought that was a advanced thing to set up i will have to look into that further thanks

Not at all. Easy to setup. I haven't run one on a salt tank but I've run a couple on fresh. Made a huge difference.

Coral Box d700+ from @reefbreeder Awesome warranty and customer service. DC pump, Gate Valve, Full Collection Cup sensor... Silent I can keep going for ever excellent skimmer and price no one can beat.

I think I might just go with the coral box a year warranty at $300 sounds good to me

They're great skimmers! The new plus version (the one we have in stock) includes a float switch that goes in the collection cup, it will automatically shut your skimmer down if the cup fills.

What's the difference between the c9 and the 700+
