Undersized UV in a reef rank - any benefit to use it?

I have an older style Aqua Ultraviolet 25 watt UV. Setting up a new 260 gallon total system volume dt/sump/fuge.

Was thinking of running it super slow (150 gph) for potential parasite control.

Is there any benefit to using it as such on a reef tank? Or is this just a potential point of failure, added heat and waste of energy?

I'd keep that size of a UV unit handy for a QT tank. Would work great.

I run a 36 watt on my 220, with about 30 gal sump and 40 gal fuge. So about 300 gal total water volume. Would consider that slightly undersized. I don’t run carbon or socks and find when I don’t change the bulb for over a year and then I do, I certainly notice the water is clearer and glass stays cleaner a lil longer. Haven’t noticed any downsides and tank is loaded with pods. Also know my tank has ich, but I’d guess the success my fish have with not succumbing to it is due to diet.

I agree with Big G. This will go great on a 40 gal observation/QT tank so you avoid headaches in the 260. Get a proper sized UV for the 260.
