Understanding test results

Trying to help a friend with a 120 gal tank. The tank has been up and running but is having trouble with some snails and coral dying. I suggested the sent their water out for testing but when they got the results back neither of us can understand. I was hoping someone may be able to help out

How long has the tank been running?

Do you happen to have a picture of the tank?

Are you dosing trace elements?

The major ions are all high enough (between 20% and 40% elevated) that I'd check the salinity.

Definitely.

If the ICP is accurate, the water is way too saline.

Yes, it is very, very high. The specific gravity is over 1.033 when it should be closer to 1.026.

So my buddy just called, after calibrating his salinity probe his salt was at 41ppt. Could this be his issue?? Everything else seem within normal range as far as perimeter and par.

I think it’s been going for more than a year, no photo

Yes, that what we suggested was the case.

It should be lowered slowly to 35 ppt.

Everything will decline when you lower salinity, Calcium, alk, etc. Keep that in mind.
