Underwater epoxy/putty/cement suggestion

JB Water weld and the TLF work great. Make sure you mix them by hand really, really well first. I do it until it's warm and soft like bubble gum. As others have mentioned I have a LOT of trouble breaking the bond once its set with both.

Hii!

I used this to make my rockwork... works very well! It is called pond foam. Never tried under water but it work very good when making the rockwork for a new reef. This stuff expands crazy. so only use very less between the joins and clean up with a sharp nife. You find that stuff also in local stores like lows.. and home depo. Also cheap. I would use a plastic under water ever you work on. It can be very messy.

Instant ocean hold fast (available on Amazon) is really good as well. It cures well underwater and is easy to mix.

i dont need a ton of cement which is why im avoiding buying marcos from all the threads i read and google searches it seems like quikrete waterstop is reef safe after being cured for a day so it cant be used underwater right away

Funny this thread came up. Just talked about this with a friend. Long story short, my son is still learning how NOT to glue the tip closed...had some Krazy Glue in the kitchen drawer and it may be my new favorite glue.

thats why I dont like krazy glue and it flakes off rock easy. I know every one uses glue, epoxy, cement and now foam but I don't like the Idea of putting mass amounts of chemicals in my tank so I generally pull the rock and do the work then place back in the tank. My frags get wedged in the LR

I need to set it up underwater and would be nervous about some wet cement getting on something like tank glass. That would be... fun

Kids seem one step ahead of mine.... things stay in the kitchen drawers hahaha. Hung a TV for my 12 year old in her room and found many missing tools and my tape measurer.... she “had to measure something”. I’m terrified for when I find what she used the other tools for.

I agree 100%. I’ll be trying reef safe products first before going another route. My issue is I’m not gluing a frag... I more or less need to resecure a decent piece of rock or smaller pieces of LR to a PVC structure after the reef epoxy failed me. I’ll try to get a picture up later tonight of what needs to be fixed but at least now when I LFS this weekend I’ll have some suggestions on a product to try.

I don’t know that you’ll be able to find an epoxy that will cure underwater and adhere to PVC. I use the underwater epoxy to make big structures out of smaller rocks. No need for pvc or acrylic rod.

So to better explain this is what came apart . The exposed PVC is what I’ll be trying to cover by adhering smaller rocks to each other or to the pvc

Nothing will stick to that unless you “rough up” the PVC first. You have to give something for the epoxy to stick to. Smooth surfaces won’t work. Sanding it up or scratching it up really bad will help. A bunch of holes can work well also. Like plaster and lathe.

The game plan was more-so to zip tie it to the pvc and glue the rocks to the neighboring ones ...

I’ve never had long term luck with zip ties or pvc under water. Now I just stack and epoxy them together.

I used ep200 and seen corals didn’t like that much at once.

Ive never used a whole stick with livestock as you likely felt the mild slime that emits from it. Running fresh carbon should break any remnants of putty down
