This morning i found my evansi anthias dead.I found it near a rock seemingly stunned,no apparent cause, still looked healthy but unmoving.I have no idea what could have caused this,it was one of my most newly aquired fish(about a month)and everything else in the tank is doing well.any possible thoughts?

How well was it eating? They are on the delicate side for anthias. What were the other tankmates?

i thought it was eating well, however i have other anthias, tangs, clowns that all are active feeders,i guess its possible that it didnt get enough food but it didnt LOOK malnourished

So many things can go wrong from the collector to the hobbiest tanks that it is amazing we have the success we do with live fish. In a lot of cases this is not unsual when trying to build a stable fish population in an aquarium. We all suffer from wanting to add that 'last' one fish. Was the fish part of a group or just a single? Many Anthias are a schooling fish and need the company of other Anthias to thrive.

Sorry for your loss.

What were the other species of anthias? There are different degrees of boisterousness, with evansi being on the peaceful end of the spectrum.

i have 4 squampannis (1 male 3 female )and i did buy a larger evansii with this one but it is extremely shy and hides most of the time.if either was going to die i would have thought it would be that one

Squammipinnis are on the aggressive side og the scale. It is likly that their rowdiness was a large contributing factor in the evansi's death.

Totally agree Lyretails could have caused stress which could have been a factor, but I have had many species of fish many Anthias that make it through QT and are eating well.....then one day just stop and die within a day or two... I know there could be many causes, but for fish to be acclimated, out and eating well one day and the next just stop I can only attribute it to poisoning most likely from collection... Three to five weeks seems to be the pivotal time period. Also I use Prazi and Cupramine for most fish. I'm also thinking about lengthening the QT period. Anyone else observe this?

Stress is a killer not only for us but our fish also. It seems to be quick with fish. If I see one perrish with no visible cause I call it a heart attack

I would highly doubt cyanide in a death of an evansi. They are collected in regions that are usually pretty good about not using it.
