I had a very happy frogspawn frag maybe 4 months ago. I put him on the bottom getting 80-110 par near a hammer and he opened WAY up.. probably 3" diameter from a small frag. One day I noticed it so open that it was nearly touching a war coral frag, so I simply turned it 180 degrees. No other changes. It's never been the same or opened to even a third of that size.

I've tried weeks in lower flow, weeks in higher flow, weeks in lower light, weeks in higher light... like, uber patient each time. No change.

It's never fully retracted or closed, just decidedly unhappy. It's a young tank and has had some mild parameter swings, but not enough to bother anyone else in the tank.

A few times, I've caught a hint of what I'm thinking could be brown jelly. I removed the frag, gave it a hardy dip in revive and iodine, and it does do 50% better for a week, but then slowly starts to close up again. Each time I've had it out, I've inspected for flatworms (found none). I've just never heard of a "mild case" of brown jelly and I only see symptoms after it's been very unhappy and near fully closed for a few days.

I'd post a picture, but all there is to see is a small froggie frag that is maybe halfway open. Can add a pic tonight.
Should add that a neighboring hammer has been just fine the whole time.

Tank parameters have been pretty consistent.

Yea, gonna need a picture

Will do. It's just not that ill looking at the moment ;) I gave it a good dip last night while I was in the tank repairing an algae blenny rampage.

I def could be wrong about brown jelly, but feel that it's most likely culprit.
What I'm wondering is, can BJ be fixed? I read about people discarding the affected head. Well, I only have one little head and it has already cost 1/2 bottle of expensive dip.. lol.

What kind of light are you using ? To me he doesn’t look that bad. Maybe a little detracted but not deflated. Maybe messing with it a little to much ?

I use two old ai sols.

That's about as good as he gets to look. Not "dying" but not thriving for sure. If the pattern holds, he'll only open to half that size within a week.

Could be too much handling, but I've tried to give it a solid 3 weeks in high - low flow/light with no joy.

Other corals doing pretty well is why I suspect disease/parasite, but I'm too new to have much of an eye for that.

Hmm, it’s doest look bad. I know it’s not the best it has looked but it’s at least extending and doesn’t look to be receding. Mine kind of did the same and then one day it just started to extend immensely.
