Hello Reefers,

I need you help, last week this nice hammer was huge and suddenly started shrink and seemed unhappy. I thought it’s just a temporary thing and couple of days it will be better but today I noticed a brown jelly thing on it. Please see the photo attached.

What is happening ? And what should I do?

Thanks in advance.

Commonly called Brown jelly disease (I know, I didn't just make that up because you said it) it's a fairly common infection in large fleshy polyps. Iodine dips seems to help some, also attempting to get as much of it off in the dip as possible can help as well. It can spread if any others are in the system so be wary of that as well.

Oh no :( thank you guys.
Why that happen tho? I dip every coral I buy before adding to the system and it was healthy for months :/

now I’ve tried to clean it, I wish it works, I don’t know how many heads I’ve lost tho!
Here’s how it looks now

If you have any coral dip I would recommend using it or getting some to attempt to disinfect it. It will take over a colony very quickly. It can happen with injuries or stress and I've seen it for basically no reason. It's a really tough thing to deal with but if you keep larger fleshy polyps it's bound to happen at some point.

I didn’t have Iodine dips actually so I used seachem reef dip instead. It’s clean now but I am worried about the rest of the corals, I wish it doesn’t spread on anything else.
Thanks a lot for the information you provided. I’ll keep my eyes on the rest of the corals for the next days.

O
Reef dip by Seachem is iodine based, you can use a double dose if needed if you dip again. I hope it doesn't spread as well, best of luck
ops, I didn’t know that it’s the same, I dipped once and it was clean as you can see in the photo, I’ll keep watching. Thank you.

I had it happen to mine once. Pulled it out and it didn't spread. Don't get to discouraged.
