Any idea what could be going on with my Warhammer coral? All my parameters are reasonably normal. All of the other coral seem to be doing fine. This poor guy has been going downhill for weeks. So sad, it used to be so full. It was my first coral. I watched it go from 2 heads to 5.

Can coral just get sick and die? Should I go ahead and rip it out of the tank?

It can't just get un-healthy and die, but it can develop an infection and die. Do you think something might be bugging it? (any other coral stinging it? did it fall down in the sand for extended period of time? any fish, shrimp or crabs nipping at it?)

Definitely don't throw it all away as it seems to be getting a ton of baby heads all around it -- I would say cut it in half at the "Y", and move the right piece at a distance from the left, as right piece seems to be doing much better than the left one. Dip the left one in lugols, and cross your fingers and hope for the best (let me know in-case you need directions for the dip). If the left piece seems to continue to deteriorate, then chop off the infected part (just the 2 big heads), and keep the branch itself because again, it seems to be getting a ton of baby heads.

What's the alk swing in your tank like? and are you dosing or just relying on water changes?

Also I see a ton of cyano in the pic -- how's the flow in your tank? try to get that in control -- that can also irritate corals.

Hope that helps!
