So I have a 20 gallon long cycled and ready for fish. I have kept some saltwater and freshwater fish in the past, but I would still like a beginner-intermediate fish. Can someone give me a recommendation for a really cool and unique/exotic fish I could put in a 20 g long?

I second a possum wrasse! They are cool and interesting. I’m still looking for one for my tank.

Also depending on your coral dreams you could try a pigmy angelfish.

Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella spp) OR Pink Streak Wrasse (Pseudocheilinops ataenia). They’re both beautiful but man, nothing can beat the stripes on the tanakas. I own the pink streak but am debating on hunting a Possum to go with him once one of the two wrasse growing in that tank finally get big enough to go with my main wrasse gang.

I had a cherub, highly recommend them but I’d recommend decent flow to keep them happy in a smaller tank

Well in mine I have a pair of ocularis clowns with a long tentacle anemone they live in. As a fish tank mate they have a six line wrasse. Also in there is a beaded anemone, pin cushion urchin, some turbo snails and lots of corals and after more than 2 years NO GREEN HAIR ALGAE.

They aren’t very active but there’s a few scorpionfish (namely coral croucher) for a 20 long, I’d consider them unique.
Pygmy hawkfish would also be cool.

long nose hawkfish is cool looking fish for a 20g long, and it won't break the bank.

Helfrichi firefish. Great colours and kinda rear and easy to keep.
