Unique fish for 20 gallon long?

Some have mentioned the Candy Basslet, but if they’re out of your price range, a Swissguard or Swales Basslet is a good alternative. I don’t know if ORA still does them but an Assessor could also be a good addition.

+1 to this, I personally love the blue assessors and macneillis (I think that’s what the others are called Atleast) due to it being an unusual colour for nano fish.

A gold assessor would be a great choice.

you might be able to get away with it. but an engineer goby is very neat and is always the first fish that guest notice at my house. they always think its an eel. i would ditch the tailspot and get a starry blenny or lawnmower. my lawnmower is one of my favorite fish. it actually likes to people watch.

20 long is a bit small for one of those. They are cool, but these can get 24-30" long in a couple years.

This is really tough in a 20 long. Personally, I would do a single sand dweller shrimp goby pair and the clowns and stop there. Anything else in the water column will fight with the clowns too small for territory.

If you had a 30-40 gallon you would have a lot more showpiece options like a pygmy angel, blue spot jawfish, hawkfish, etc.

Yeah, their name is really off putting haha, I go with their other common name of Griessinger Goby so it doesn’t confuse people more.

ok thanks. I was planning on special ordering pink streaked wrasse and flaming prawn goby from my lfs, what names should I use for each of them bc each of them have multiple names.

Thank you for the recommendations but I think im going to stick with the pink streaked

Personally I’d use Scientific names or the most common name for them.
Over here, most LFSs will know Pseudocheilinops ataenia as Cryptic Wrasse or Pink Streak Wrasse and Discordipinna griessingeri as Griessingers Goby.

Blue spot jawfish are a cold water species and don’t last long in warm water tanks.

nice list although keep in mind the flaming prawn is cryptic and a kinda expensive these days.. you may never see it once it be is in the tank Just something to realize.

I know, thanks for the advice but I'm willing to search for if it just hides. It will also help with the diversity so there are fish in different parts of the tank, and I don't mind a higher price tag if I really love the fish

Personally I find they will take a while to set up camp but once they’ve done that they are an excellent cross between shy and boisterous.

Maybe, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was due to the Yasha or Hectori as the two tevegaes were in after him.
