Hello all, I'm trying to find out what this algae is. Blacked the tank out for 5 days and it is coming back again.

Looks like a new tank, so you're going to go through a few stages of algae, etc. Part of the new tank. I would just ride it out. Part of the cycle.

The tank is 4 months old now. This algae is just coming back as of today. It was worst pre blackout, and then after 5 days is starting to return. I know it's not diatoms, as it grows on strings. My concern is dinoflagilates.

There are some good threads on here about that and what will work. My current tank is just over a year now, I started with dry rock, had all sorts of algae on the rocks and sand. I think the tank is just maturing. Mine went through all its stages and disappeared on its own. I don't do black outs or chemicals for algae. Just read up on the threads. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is nothing. Just continue routine w/c's and good husbandry and I think you'll be fine.

What would you recommend as far as corals? That is some that are rather hardy, and are unlikely to be killed or severely damaged as the tank goes through this cycle?

I would let it go but leathers are extremely hardy. My finger leather has been with me through thick and thin. Sometimes would stay all closed up for a week or so sometimes it would she'd but three years later it's still going strong. Right now its starting to split in three sections.

I would start with fish and let the tank mature a little more before adding corals. What kind of corals do you want to have?
