Hey guys
I need your eagle eyes to take a look at this colony. I noticed these a while back, no changes in size so far. Are they a possible bloom of destruction or life of the party. All I have in the tank are some hermit crabs, few snails and a coral band shrimp. Thanks in advance

They are some kind of a polyp. Probably a Zoanthid of some sort. I could not tell you what they were due to the blurry picture and the fact that many of the Zoas don’t seem to have skirts or are closed up displaying a subdued brown and yellow color. Maybe you have a nice colony of fancy Zoanthids or Paly’s.

Have you had a chance to look at them under blue light?

A lot of eye popping zoas under actinic lights look kind of boring under white lights.

Lol, on the other hand, If they look lame under both white lights and blue lights, then I would toss them and that small rock.
Save your real estate for so many much more beautiful things!

Unless that pic was taken in early morning or you just had your hands in the tank, your parameters may be really off.
Dull brown palys are one of the toughest corals.
If they are not standing tall then it is; parameters are off, something was nearby that temporarily caused them to close, some pest is harassing them.

Can you tell us more about your tank?
Size, how long running, what test kits you are using?

For reference, I usually just get mine tested at my LFS and I keep a Hana phosphate ultra low checker that normally blinks at me because my phosphates are just a little too high for it to read.
A 15 gallon water change on ths 75 gallon tank and it will give a reading within its range.

You can keep an absolutely beautiful tank of fish and soft corals with slightly off parameters. I do.

But you will need rock solid parameters that remain consistent to keep SPS alive.

I still haven't managed that yet.

Thanks

This was an early morning shot. No lighting has hit them because I’m doing a diy stand.

But I’m not dosing or anything. My parameters are fair I think

Salinity 1.026
Ph 8.2
Nitrates 20
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0

I think a water change is needed to bring them down a bit. Are there any other recommendations I can do. I would like to see what comes from them. I am happy ;Smug

My tank is 90g
48x18x24
It’s been running for over 2 months but it was an already established tank when I bought. Astrea snails, blue crabs, and a coral banded shrimp are my occupants. I’m using API test kits to check the parameters.
