Hello all, I have a question regarding an unknown coral spreading very rapidly across my tank. I have a 40gal Reef tank with a various mix of bubble corals, mushrooms, and hammer corals. Over the past few weeks, I've watched this one particular coral spread from one corner of the tank to the next. I have not added anything new to the tank that it may have hitchhiked on for at least 6 months. It is now on every peice of live rock in the tank. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and can help identify it? I'm not even entirely sure it is a coral, but it reminds me of other star polyp species. I appreciate any and all feedback, thank you.

Blue snowflake polyps. They are considered a pest by many reefers because they seem to be unstoppable.

hi,sympodium, seems like you have enough, not sure how to knock back.

Make a thick slurry with kalkwasser + rodi, turn off your pumps for 15 minutes and use a syringe to coat the offending polyps. The Kalk will stay in place when the pumps come back on and will smother/alk burn the polys. Works well on gsp and unwanted palys too.

yes ,but this is only a 40 gallon..will raise alk too fast, jmo?

Nope. The kalk will stay put on the rock with minimal alk leeching. You only really need to hit the spot where the coral is advancing and over time you can keep pushing the “line” backwards. Try to only do a 1/4” swath at a time just because some corals release stuff defensively and you want to avoid overwhelming your tank.
