Hey everyone, I just noticed some unknown growth on my zoa rock that I purchased a couple weeks ago. It looks like it has the same shape of clove polyps but a different base/growth pattern. Does anyone know the ID of it.
Thanks in advance!

Other than what you said, perhaps feather duster worms? I found a similar looking picture, although they're slightly lighter here: http://hiddenunseen.blogspot.com/2012/02/top-10-beautiful-worms-corals-and.html

Can you tell what the "stems" look like and how many "arms" each one has? Clove polyps should have 8 "arms". Looks like feather dusters would have way more than this.

Thank you so much! They sound horrible I'll get rid of those ASAP! Again thanks for saving me a massive headache down the road

you can chip the rock or cover them in super glue to remove them.
I have them isolated now but they are right on the edge of my zoa mat so I can't chip it without damaging the zoas. I'll give the super glue a shot.
Thanks!

It's very hard to see any stems they look as though the "arms" are coming right from the mat. They don't look like any of the other worms that I have in my tank so I'm going on the safer side and just wiping them out before they spread any more!
Thank you though!

Agreed! I’m a total novice. I think their advice is WAY better. [emoji1]

Do your best to get rid of them and try and segregate that frag if possible. Also, these are annoying but not totally invasive. I supposed what is and isn't invasive is in the mind of the tank owner but I've got 2 patched of these and I like them. When they start to grow a little crazy, they are easily kept in check with a little spot of kalk paste. If you let them take over everything and then try to get rid of them, it's a giant pain. These aren't any worse than a standard zoa that can grow and grow and start to "take over". Personally, I kinda like them and have little spots of them in every tank I have.

I love their color. Had a quarter size patch. Now they have broadcaster all over the tank. They are not "invasive" yet but then I've only had the take up and running 6 months. I can see that they could easily cover every square inch of available rock quickly. Not sure if that is a good thing.
