Hello,

Yesterday I noticed a dark mark from just below the black dot on the dorsal fin of my copperbanded butterfly. He is new to the tank.

Any thoughts on to what this is? He looked healthy when purchased.

Thanks

This looks like an injury - even potentially an infection - can you post a picture under white light? Almost looks like uronema - but in an odd place. Did you notice is it on both sides

This is a result of bite or injury to area which has become infected and requires treatment with Seachem Kanaplex in a separate Qt tank. How long has this developed and is fish eating?

This fish ate all of my aiptasia, I have tried frozen shrimp yesterday since I saw the mark and noticed there was no aiptasia to munch on and had started nibbling at my green Duncan.
He was picking around at the food I gave him, today he seems to be hiding a bit more, but is currently swimming around.…. Also the only fish are two clowns that seem to get along really well. I’m thinking he may have injured himself on a rock then.

Thanks, I will look in to the seachem. I couldn’t find anything to match this mark on google.

How long have you had the fish?

It does look like Uronema, but I agree it is not in a typical location.

I managed to get some more photos. He is swimming up the side of the tank at the overflow. Thought he may be looking for food but isn’t eatting.

Looks like something took some of the fin off but no idea what or how.

additionally - its on both sides - not sure @vetteguy53081 was aware. I suppose it could be a severe bacterial infection as well

Seachem Kanaplex is hard to get for me locally.
I can get something called DiscusX bactocide 1 on amazon by Saturday. Assume you haven’t used this, cannot search it in any of the forums.

DiscusX no good and is a freshwater tonic
