Either colonial hydroids or yellow polyp corals. Hard to tell on phone as they are distant in the pic

Again though is it problematic?

Some people, not many. Like them. I would pull that rock, use tweezers at the base of the hydroids and remove them. They can spread like wild fire.

Yellow polyps no, hydroids yes and they multiply quickly and capable of stinging Some coral. Snipping off at theiir base and covering with coral putty most effective. You have to starve them to stop them If hydroids which will be small. Yellow polyps close to size of zoa coral

I will lose some coral taking the rock out. Could I starve it for Light?

Not light - Food
You will want to direst flow towards them,. Not at them preventing suspended food from reaching them

Colonial Hydroids, fast growing/spreading, invasive and will sting any coral it touches. Best bet is to remove the rock they're on and toss it if its small. If not I've had success covering them with coral glue and I've heard of success by using kalk paste

In order to be sure they are hydroids and not palythoa, the hydroids will hide in their tube. Palythoa will close up like zoas

Depending on species, the hydroids I've had closed up like zoas though much more flat against the rock, didn't have a tube. Sea spiders will eat them also.

Well Did NOT like doing that but took rock out sacrificed three small coral . Put it in bleach don't know if I will reuse rock. Thanks for the advice everyone

That'll definitely wipe them out and you saved a lot of time by removal

You could have just chiseled off the part of the rock with the hydroids... or fragged the corals off and put them back in the tank.

rock was only the size of a baseball, The corals were mushrooms. I did not make a dent. I had to make the sacrifice to be sure
