So i have to go for a vacation last Dec, around 2 weeks, leaving my 10g nano.

Running
-protein skimmer
-ATS
-auto feeder once a day
-auto doser all for reef & AF power elixir

which is always running even if i’m at home. The thing is, when i’m at home spending hours infront of my tank. There’s nothing wrong with it, its all clean, i dont even need to put my hand inside my tank unless there is something on the glass that i need to scrape. So after a long vacation, fcking hell, its smell like a drainage. No dead fish or inverts. No dead corals nor bleached corals whatsoever. All live stocks looks healthy. I know i’m not the only one experiencing this. Anyone can explain this so called “tank mystery upon vacation”?? Thanks :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Answer from human ( but not ENT) doctor-Covid-19 can decrease sense of smell, but some people have a DISTORTED sense of smell instead.

You were noseblind to the smell. Two weeks away just allowed you to smell it again.

I would say maybe your skimmer, or maybe you were so used to it from being around it constantly, that being gone for 2 weeks reset your senses so now you notice something stinking

Skimmate or with limited filtration, you have toxins from leather and hammer releasing gases causing the smell. You should notice after dumping skimmer and cleaning filters, it dissipates

I agree with this being a possibility…like when you come home after time away from your house and smell what others smell that don’t live there!
