Unusual cycle

I got a 20 gallon that I use for a hospital tank.. ammonia got up to 2ppm added bacteria... been a few weeks I have been testing weekly ammonia started to drop.. nitrite stayed a 0ppm nitrate has gone up to 5 ppm.. why have I never had nitrite? Multiple test to make sure it wasnt a testing error..

Was the rock dry? Live sand?

What has been your amonia source?

No rock or sand.. ammonia chloride powder

What bacteria did you use? I have used biospira and stability and both cycled in a couple days. Add ammonia again and then check it in 24 hours. If it's back to 0 your bacteria are there and doing there thing.

Activate. Never had issues with it all of my tanks were cycled with it..
