Unusual Stock for 45 Gallon Lagoon?

UC's Koji Wada Pink nepthea is a pretty but unusual coral

So I think I’ve settled on this for fish

- Madagascar Coral Croucher

-Flame Angel

- Saddleback Clown (probably a pair, maybe a single. Depends on what I can find locally)

- red mandarin/ psychedelic mandarin/ ruby red dragonet. Will add in 6 months - a year so I can add pods. Will be captive bred/ eating prepared foods.

Does this sound good for fish? Am I overstocked?

Those coral crouchers are cool but keep in mind they hide almost all day long. Consider one of the pygmy angels like a flameback, they stay smaller and probably would be a better choice for a 45 gallon tank.

Was thinking about a flameback. Is Brazilian or African better? Are there any other dwarf angels that are smaller? I already have a cherub in a different tank and I want something new

Not sure the difference.. I have an african in my 70 gallon. I think all the pygmys are about the same size.

Ive heard brazillians are more agressive and pretty sure theyre rarer. Theres also the fishers and flavicauda which get to the same size.

Flavicauda is giving me a lot of different results on google. Which one are you talking about? Are they both reef safe? I’ve never heard of either of them!

I mean centropyge flavicauda. Theyre both dwarf angels, i cant say what they will or wont eat with certainty in terms of corals but will be similar to the cherub and flameback in what they may consume. Theyre both very closley related to the cherub and flamebacks as theyre in the xiphypops subgroup of centropyge, theyre essentially the same fish and havent evolved much from one another as of yet if i remember right so it should be expected theyre all pretty similair in care. Ive never kept either however, just the only other small angels.

Thank you!

Thinking about switching fire clowns for spotcinctus? Anybody have any experience with either of these? Just sounds like spotcinctus are more passive towards tank mates

Assessors are a somewhat unusual fish that you might like. Also, there isn’t really any evidence that btas will fight each other, and many people have kept quite a few together.

I would stick with brightly colored clowns. If you are going to be looking 'down' at the fish a lot, you want wide, brightly-colored fish.

Ive already got snowflakes in a different tank. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but I'm looking for something very different. My three picks for clowns would be fire, saddleback, or spotcinctus. Just trying to figure out which one is gonna be the least likely to harass my other fish as the coral croucher and mandarin will be very slow moving and peaceful

Okay so do y’all think that this is an acceptable fish list?

3 spotcinctus clowns (there will be at least 2 BTA)

a red mandarin (if I can find a captive bred/prepared food eater) ruby red dragonet as backup

longnose hawk

some kind of dwarf angel, tbd. Probably whichever looks the healthiest at my lfs

Madagascar coral croucher (I am aware of the high likelyhood that I will have to spot feed this fish, I’m chill with that)

Inverts:
Fire shrimp
Possibly a couple pom pom crabs? (Are they good with the hawk?)
Normal cuc (hermits, snails, etc)

I would be more worried about the shrimp than the pom Pom crab with the hawk. Maybe try to get a larger shrimp and smaller hawk if you can, and make sure your hawk stays well fed. Other than that, the list looks fine to me.

Im going to buy my longnose as small as possible. The shrimps I usually see at my lfs are at least 2” in carapace length. Since fire shrimps are the same body size as peppermints I would assume that the hawk wouldn’t bother it because the hawk’s mouth is so small?

You will probably be just fine with them together. From what I’ve seen, long nose hawks are the least likely to eat shrimp, and if it’s a big shrimp like your describing, the chances should be even lower.
