Unusual trumpet coral

Hi, I've just picked up this trumpet coral, it looks unlike a candy a cane and the feeding tenticles are out all the time. It is clearly caulastrea family but I've not seen anything else like it. Any ideas where this may have originated from?

It could be a regular trumpet/candy cane. I have several regular acans and favia that look very odd because they refuse to retract their feeding tentacles and I don’t know why. Could be one of those, who knows? Try feeding it half a mysis shrimp, it may just be hungry.

If a true rhizo, it’s non photosynthetic and needs to be fed well to keep alive. Not an easy one.

No. You’re talking about trumpets which branch out and don’t have visible tentacles most of the time. Rhizos always have tentacles out and are very stony. Usually you’ll only see one head with a big vertical open mouth with thick tentacles with thinner tips.

This fellow must be a trumpet then as its a branching firm

A trumpet will be very fleshy with tentacles not always out. Take a pic of the skeleton. The tentacles remind me of NPS corals.

I agree looks nps however does glow green in the centre under blue and uv so it does contain zooxanthelle.

Not the best photo but growth pattern is just like a trumpet coral.

It's not a rhizo, but could be a balanophyllia due to the shorter tentacles.
