Hello Reefers!

My tank is currently 3.5-4 months old. This is my first reef tank! My tank currently has no occupants besides a single hermit. I have been dealing with these feather duster worms from almost the start… now they are at a point where they are reproducing very fast and I consider them to be an eye sore in these large amounts. Does anyone have some valuable information on these? Do you know what they are? How to manage? Based on what I’ve researched feather dusters don’t have any “predators”… I’d love some answers/advice.

Thank you in advance!

spirorbid worms , filter feeders . If there’s a ton you can try feeding less , they are harmless tho
There’s no fish so I’m not feeding. I am dosing all for reef everyday to keep nutrients stable. Do they feed off nutrients or “food”… and will their numbers die down?

Target feeding your fish will help. Eventually their numbers will drop but will always be in there.
I’m only dosing for my corals, no feeding. Will their numbers still die down? Do you know how fast? Tank is gonna be fishless for another 2 months or so.

If correct feeding and husbandry are in place there numbers should grow not drop and are a sign of good water parameters If your tank is setup correctly

I keep my water parameters very close to ocean levels at all times with once a day target feeding everything turn off all pumps and let it snow just like it does irl and removing any excess food via a filter pad daily just like when the currents come back it would be blown away and water changes 20 percent every 2 weeks
