I have a large piece 15-20lbs of rock with some ugly Zoas that are taking over, but there are some different good Zoas on the rock as well that I want to keep. My question is what's the easiest way to get rid of unwanted Zoas and is there any precaution when removing them manually.
Thanks

First off I must say sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. With that said the best option would be to try remove them alive and donate them to another reefer in your area or LFS. This way you preserve the reef life and can help another reefer grow some easy corals...

Now if you want to remove them you have a few options:

Peel away the zoas - sometimes they have a mat which is eay to remove. Do this under water to prevent the zoa from squirting at you and causing infection from palytoxin...

Kalk Paste - This will basically burn them off the rock like treating aptasia. Do this slowly though as it will affect your tank pH a bit.

Fire - Take out the rock and locally burn the areas with the palys on it. Be very careful though as the skoke or steam can cause issues with palytoxin...

I agree with u about giving them to someone who would want them, but these guys are ugly and look as if they are weeds of the Zoa. No color, just an ugly grey/green. Would give a pic but it says it's invalid

Thanks for the advice. Looks like i got some rock cleaning to do

never heard of this method. I wish I could light fire to all my texas trash ones that are taking over the back of my tank
