Hi newbie here, I finally decided to step out of the shadows of lurking and introduce myself and my new tank. After a month of collecting parts and 3 tank swaps, I finally got her running. She's 125 gallons with a 55 gallon sump. Not many bells and whistles yet, but only because it's my first tank and I'm definitely learning trail by error.

Looking good so far!! One suggestion. Make sure that skimmer is sitting flat or you might have issues with it working properly.
Glad you finally came out of the shadows!! Ask lots of questions, we are here to help!!

Welcome and thanks for sharing your progress, which looks great so far.

As @dbl said Welcome to the R2R family and we hope you feel at home and welcomed.

If your just beginning the cycle process then I don't even turn a skimmer on until it's completed.

1) You will just be struggling to dial it in for a new reef. The water is just too clean and you will not have enough organics to get a nice a skimmate.

2) During the cycling phase I do not want to skim things out. It could slow down the cycle process. I just like to let natural take it's coarse and get a really good and deep cycle. So for myself, I do not turn a skimmer on until I know that my new setup has completed the cycle, weather I choose to dose bacteria to speed the cycle up or not.

Thanks for the advice, unplugging as we speak...

Welcome!
While you are cycling, you can still break in your skimmer if it's new. Just use a bucket and some saltwater and let her run at the lowest air setting. This way you don't have to wait another week or two to get the skimmer dialed in after the cycle.
