Leaning towards reef octopus skimmer, I have a 150 gal mainly sps tank, which model do you guys recommend ? The classic line or the regal/ elite line ? Are the DC driven skimmers worth it ?

I am no Reef Octopus user , so #reefsquad can chime in . But I have seen a lot fo my friends/LFS using them and everyone raves about the regal/elite line .

The DC pump makes tuning the skimmers extremely easy and the inclusion of float switch to switch off the skimmer when its full makes it a lot desirable.

That said ,I believe you can DIY float switch in a classic line . So if you are ready to do a little DIY, the classic line is not a bad choice especially if you don't care about the DC pump and ready to take your time to tune the skimmer - the SRO series is truly amazing !

Abhishek

I have an sro 2000lxs hob it's great. Which model would be best for a 150 med bio load tank ?

Ironically, the skimmer I am replacing with the Tunze 9430DC IS a Reef Octopus SRO-3000-I internal. I would not say this skimmer is quiet. Not as loud as many but not as quiet as the DC models out there. The SRO is a bullet proof skimmer and pulls a lot of gunk out. But it can be finicky and does overflow occasionally. I have a Tunze 9410DC on another tank and this thing never overflows, always has the perfect type of foam and is relatively quiet. I am away from home quite a bit and love not worrying about my house sitter calling me with skimmer problems. If you decide to go with the SRO-3000-I, mine will be up for sale as soon I get my Tunze installed. It has 18 months of operation on it. I clean it every 6 months with vinegar bath.

I run elite 220. Really nice skimmer. Quite and efficient
What size tank do you have ? I have a 150 gal tank. What size do you recommend? It's mostly sps with 9 fish at the moment.
