I need to update my apex, which is in my basement. However, my router is on the floor above I know Neptune says not to wirelessly update, so my question is can I disconnect everything from the main apex, bring it upstairs to update, then plug everything back in? Unfortunately I don't have 100 ft of cat5 to run down to make this easier! Any suggestions?

Do you have a laptop?

Is your apex a static ip? If it is and you know the ip

Download the file to your laptop. Bring it downstairs

configure your onboard rj45 port on your laptop to a different ip

So say apex in 192.168.0.155
configure your laptop onboard port to 192.168.0.156

then connect cat5 between them and you should be able to access the apex. Either bring it up in browser or ping the ip

Then update the firmware through the utility in the download

Did this myself the other day.

You can unplug all of the modules and move the Apex to your router if you wish. I usually bring my router down to the Apex base unit and plug it in along with my laptop.

I just plug my computer into a hardline for the download, never once plugged my apex in to comp, my apex is also hardlined into my router so idk if it makes a difference. But never had an issue this way. Also ive done it wirelessy plenty of times as well, just if something goes wrong the laptop goes back into the hardline and it seems to work flawlessly every time.

Its nearly impossible to mess up as all it realy is doing is wiping out the old firmware and replacing it with new, so even if it does mess up, reinstalling the new firmware erases the corrupt firmware and replaces with the non corrupt version

If you feel uncomfortable upgrading the firmware, you can do what I did. Call neptunesystems customer service and one of their techs can remote in to your computer and do it for you. Super easy and they offer great support IMHO
