So I purchased this equipment used. It was originally purchased new in sept 2019. Which means it should have the black chip and be upgradable right? Well all I get is this and repeated fails in updating.

My S2 gave me a ton of trouble trying to update it. I had to reset it several times each time trying the update again before it eventually pushed through. My MP40 was similar but it only took one reset to get it updated.

I too had trouble updating my MP40's.
What I did was this.
Unplugged all devices except the one being updated
Ran the update, leaving my phone directly next to the driver and the app open
This seemed to work for me
