I currently have a 72 gallon bow front that isn't drilled nor does the stand have space for a sump. Lately my tank has been experiencing the results of poor filtration so I have decided to purchase a drilled 6ft 125 MarineLand. When I originally set up my bow front I was impatient when it came to setting up the tank therefore I didn't thoroughly research my equipment purchases. This go around I am taking my time and making sure I do everything right the first time. I am in the process of building a custom stand and so far I am very pleased with what I have accomplished. The foundation is constructed of cedar 2x4 and birch plywood. To secure the stand 4in deck screws were used.

2x6 oak planks for the corners and 1/2x6 oak planks for the top and bottom were then used to skin the stand. Not having any true knowledge of carpentry pilot holes were not drilled until the 1/2x6 cracked numerous times. Because the crown molding was ordered we wanted to avoid wasting any of the crown molding. We practiced with a cheaper piece of molding but failed to perfectly cut the correct angles. When the molding came in our neighbor down the street, who is also a carpenter, was recruited.

I created shelving on one side for additives, tests, and other equipment. On the other side I created an area to mount controllers.

In order to mount doors 1/2x6 oak planks were added on the sides of the opening as well as a 2x4 and an oak plank in the center. Baseboards are currently being installed but coordinating schedules are a little difficult. Hoping to have it stained by Monday!

This is looking very nice...great work. It's definitely worth taking your time in the long run, even as frustrating as waiting can be. Good luck with the remainder of the build.

A month later and the stand is finished and the tank is plumbed but not quite glued. My first order for plumbing I forgot to purchase a check valve but luckily it comes in tomorrow along with everything else I need before I start filling. The tank is not in its permanent spot as my 72 is currently there. The tank that will house the fish during the 125's cycle is a small 29 and I want my powder brown to spend the least amount of time in there as possible.

After configuring my plumbing setup I decided to incorporate a QT. I plan on placing a small 10 gallon or maybe slightly larger next to the sump with the ability to fill it by simply turning a valve. With a small 10 gallon I figured I could just siphon out the water or take the tank out to empty it once the fish have been added to the display. Hoping to have the 72 torn down and 125 in place and filled before April!
