Seeing if anyone has tried to upgrade the ballasts in a AquaticLife T5 fixture that has the built in timer. I took my light apart and looked at the wiring and it doesn't look to be impossible but I figured I would check and see if anyone has done it before I order the ballasts.

I would like to upgrade the ballasts to the Philips Advanced Centium ICN-2S54 ballasts and still be able to use the built in timer. From the looks of it the time control runs to a box that I am assuming has relays in it. From the box the wiring goes to the ballasts. The wiring for the existing ballasts to the sockets is slightly different than that of the Centium ballast but I am comfortable making those changes.

Here are some pictures of the existing ballasts and the "black box" that the built in timer goes to.

The ballast looks to be standard so if it only has the lines in and out as shown in the second picture, you should be good to go as long as you match the type (HO, programmed vs. rapid start), size and number of lamps. I have never seen a box like shown in picture 3.
