I've been testing pH with the API. Want to upgrade to a more accurate test, but the things are all over the place. Everything from strips for a couple of bucks to monitors that run into the hundreds of dollars. I want consistency and relative ease and accuracy. Recommendations?

This is the brand I use and I keep it calibrated with standard 7.0ph buffer.
Its been reliably working for close to 10 years. Just take care of it.

Oakton Instruments WD-35634-05 EcoTestr pH1 Waterproof Pocket Tester, 0-14 pH https://a.co/d/08iIGIS

This looks like a good tester. How often do you have to calibrate it? Every time you use it? Once a month? Twice a year? And how often do you have to replace the calibration, cleaning, and storage solutions?

This answers a lot of basic questions about using a pH meter:

and this has a detailed discussion of pH in reef tanks:

I would stick with a trusted name brand like Oakton as they are made by Dwyer.
For a few more bucks you really get a quality instrument.
Rinse the probe of salt water, dry with microfiber and replace the cap. There is no requirement for a storage solution on these meters iirc, unlike my myron L i use for work. But thats as simple as using condensate or DI water for a storage solution.

I calibrate it every so often with unexpired air tight PH calibration solution.

Just buy small bottles as you only need to fill up the small probe cap to calibrate.
