So I'm not exactly new to the hobby but I am definitely less experienced than you all... I am upgrading to a 110 gallon aquarium from my 36 gallon. The aquarium is reef ready except I need a skimmer. I was thinking of getting a bubble magus curve 5 (or maybe curve 7?) or maybe a eshopps cone skimmer or a reef octopus as I have heard these are all good brands... which skimmer do you recommend? The tank has a sump I know but I don't know how much room I have for the skimmer yet. This aquarium will be fish only with some inverts but no coral because I need to focus more on fish before I start a reef tank again. Another question I have is when you upgrade, can you do it all in one day and it act as a large water change? Or do you have to cycle the whole thing again? Also what fish can I put in it? It's a 5 foot tank and I was thinking some tangs along with dwarf angels and maybe some wrasses or something to go with my existing pair of clowns. Is there anything wrong? is there anything else I need to know? Any suggestions of livestock to get?

I would suggest the highest quality skimmer your budget allows. Also get a skimmer that will be slightly over capacity for your system. I have a Super Reef Octopus and it works very well. But there are newer skimmers out there.

For a five foot tank, you can have a Kole Tang or any members of that genus. You can have the small members of the Zebrasoma. The Yellow Tang would work well. You could even put in two, if they go in at the same time. Usually Yellow Tangs at the stores are gaunt. My yellows plumped up nicely and are very nice fish.
