That is exciting spscrazy! Here is what we did...I got the LFS to help me. They're great folks.
Pre-made salt water in buckets. Had to buy larger skimmer, pump, UV etc. I didn't do a water change for over a month to let the tank get dirty.
* Syphoned water into buckets...just down to the highest rock.
* Placed rock first layer of rock and coral in buckets. Separated corals into groups to keep them from starting war.
* Repeated the process down to the next level of rocks/coral. We also used Brute barrels.
* Once the water was down to where the fish could barely swim, we netted them. We placed them in the buckets with the rock and coral. We separated them based on
compatibility in a small space.
* Cleared out a hole in one corner of the tank and syphoned the remaining water.
* Moved the small tank/stand and put the larger one in place.
* Transferred live sand from old tank to new and also added new bags of live sand.
* Plumbed the overflows from top down to the sump.
* Started adding water to the new tank. To keep from stirring up the sand so bad, buffer the flow with something flat. (we used the top of a styrofoam box)
* We placed the rock and corals into the tank, then the fish.
* We didn't have quite enough water, so we didn't put the lights up or start the pump or anything. We just put a bunch of powerheads in to keep everything flowing and
let everything chill and de-stress overnight.
Today -
* Add the rest of the salt water.
* Hook up the pump, skimmer, UV and lights
* Do the rockscape and place corals
I haven't bought my new LED lights yet, so I am going to have to use three 48" T5 fixtures and one 48" Marineland Reef Capable Fixture for a couple of weeks until I decide which ones I want.
One sad note --- my 7" Foxface Rabbitfish didn't make it. He totally freaked out when we moved him. I think he had a heart attack...he was way too stressed.
I would love some input for a cool rock scape. I'd love to see pictures posted on this thread to get ideas!
Thanks!
