So i am a new reefer. I am always learning and trying to make things right. I brought a aquaone nano 35 a few months back and loved it. But wanted bigger and got a great deal on a used IM Fusion 20. I just have a few questions.
The Aqua One came with this - Aqua One Excel Chips Sintered Glass Bio Media - Picture for reference and this was just placed in the back of the Tank. Being new i never thought anything of it!

So now i have upgraded to the Fusion 20 got it all setup with Red Sea FiJI Live sand and new some new Dry rock that i got from a LFS. It's about 3 weeks into the cycle. Added Dr tim's and ammonia source etc. But cannot test my water atm due to having Covid :( Slight brushings of brown aglea on the rocks and sand. (I have not turned my light on during cycling) I added the old Sintered Glass from my old tank in a media bag and placed in the read chamber of the Fusion 20. My question is will this even be benefical or can i remove it? As it is taking up much needed space. Will there be enough bacteria on the dry rock and live sand (I have around 3-4 inch sand bed and around 8kg of dry rock) that i can just remove this bag of Sintered Glass from my sump (it. probably has around 15-20 peices in)? I don't want to cause any problems to the 2 clownfish. Who are in there.

Thanks

Your old biomedia (the sintered glass) definitely helps make the take more stable and makes the biofilter have more "age" to it. What I would do it kee the bag on one side of the back chamber after the filter sock department. Where the filter socks are, that is where you can put your other media. I would recommend getting a media rack for the tank if it did not come with one (not sure if the new nuvos come with one or not). You can also put the biomedia in the pump chamber. I can't imagine you don't have room for the media.

The bag should fit just fine in the middle compartment with the return pump. Shouldn't hurt anything. Good Luck and Welcome to R2R!

Thanks for the help. I already have the media baskets so I'll place in the pump section. There's a little space as I hsve a upgraded pump and my heaters down their.
Thanks!

Ah so what about the section after the baskets?

So basically i have two baskets one in each side. At the moment just using filter floss. But have Chemi-pure blue nano waiting for when the cycle is complete and just ordered the IM Reactor so thinking of running something in their when it comes.

So it sounds like you still have one section after the basket on one side that is free? That is where I had my biomedia in my nuvo.

Sort of that is where my reactor will be going hopefully i'll just put in the section where the pump is!

Oh ok sorry I was confused. I see you said that the reactor will go in one but I was thinking the other side where you don't have the reactor. Let me know what you think that reactor! I am interested in one of those since they are self contained.
