Well, like the header stated, I'm upgrading from my 125 to a 240. Thats the good news. Ha Now comes the fun part, switching over ALL livestock. I'm going to use my current rock (about 100 lbs of marco, 50-60 LR) that has been in my 125 for over a year, the sand from the 125 (maybe), the lights, and just beefing up the filtration a bit. During this process of switching, should I just move the water from the 125 over and add new water along with the current rock and sand?

Also, the livestock will be going into a QT for the time of switch. How long do you think my SPS and RBTA will be OK in the QT that only has PC's over it, and not enough to sustain LPS for long periods? The answer above depends on this I guess. Again, this is just a QT.

Whatever you may suggest would be appreciated. For some reason, I could answer anyone on how to do this, but my brain plays tricks and I second guess myself when it's mine. The move from a 55 to a 125 wasn't bad for me over a 2 years ago, but this 240 is replacing the 125, and going into it's spot. Thanks

I wouldnt use the same sand, too much crap is going be stirred up while changing it and it will definitely give you a huge spike in nitrates and phosphates. Just add new sand with a few cups of the old sand

I think you should be okay to just mix up some new water and get everything switched over to the big tank, its like doing a 40% water change.

one tip is to run all your old water through a filter sock when going into the new tank, you can catch all the crud before it hits the new tank

I agree with tubo, I'd get new sand and just swap everything else over. How long do you anticipate having the corals in the QT?

Don't you hate second guessing yourself? I do it all the time too.

Yes, I can't stand second guessing. Good deal on just a quick switch Turbo. I only intend the corals to be in QT for around 3-5 days if I just add the new water to existing water (like Turbo stated, kinda like a 40 percent water change). This should give the new water a buffer zone I think. Any thoughts on this?
The sand will be added later that week prior to livestock. I already have 40-50 lbs of dry unused sand standing by.

Can you just put the rock and corals in the 240g half full and add water to it as you get it mixed? I would try to move the critters around as little as possible.

I could. See what second guess gets me,, Your right, it wouldn't be that bad or anything other than doing a water change that all livestock goes through. Why I second guess.....:crossedlips:

LOL yeah the only thing is everything would be spread out and you would have to do an aquascaping experiment when the tank gets full enough but that only gives you a few days to think about how you really want to do it.

Already thinking and looking thru member tanks pics and vids. Fun, fun, fun.
