Hi all, My 110gal has an intank filter box custom build. Its basically an acrylic box with glass baffles and 3 chambers: Intake, a middle one and return pump chamber. Tank is 30" tall so I have plenty of water in those chambers. Pump is a Rio 8HF rated about 550gal/h.
Thing is, as for intake it has a lots of round holes and I have observed that surface skimming is not very efficient as a film is clearly visible, also, at surface close to intake holes there a re a lot of bubbles and stuff "waiting" to enter filter. It looks like the holes are too small and some kind of surface tension don't allow water to flow freely.
So, I guess it will need an mod to upgrade intake rate. Some pics.

My idea is to cut a square with all that holes and attached some overflow comb box that run from glass to all front of black acrylic glass.
What do you think?

I've been watching water flow and definitely surface is not being skimmed. There is an oily film in all water surface and the portion close to filter just pass by.
Any ideas?
