Hi, I’m looking to upgrade my 20gal in to a 45gal and I am going to use all the sand and probably have to add a little more, I’m using same rock and I’m going to transfer the water into it as well I also have small frag rocks in my big tanks refusion that I’ll toss in the filtration plus some bio balls that have been sitting in the sump for a while too. would I need to move my fish and coral into the tank? just in case it spikes or would it be fine.

I’d go right ahead with that.
Adding original water is not necessary as it contains little bacteria.
Maybe a light rinse of original sand in RODI would be a good idea.

Even better, thanks!!
Enjoy, I did exactly the same thing from 65g to 180g.
First the rock, then the sand, then new water and got her spinning.
Then the corals.
But with my fish I had to do in three groups.
6 small guys day 1
2 not so agreesive tangs day 2
2 agreesive tangs day 3.
In each case, added same time.
This was to soften the introductions, not for the bio load.

A bit of soft flashing, but other than that, peace.

Parameters went a bit out for a month, but nobody seemed to notice.

As mentioned any reused sand must be rinsed. Also the sand itself doesn't really have any positives in reuse. The rocks are what matter.

Move everything over and allow tank to settle before adding fish. Things are always a little murky when getting rolling.
