Ok so I scored a smoking deal on a bashea sump yesterday it was new never installed I am planning on swapping it out this afternoon. My question is I’m having to re do my plumbing so it’s going to take a few hours. What do I need to do to keep everyone alive during the process. It’s a 90 gallon DT but I’ve only got 2 small clowns a fire fish 2 scarlet cleaners and a bunch of snails and hermits. Also should I worry about the glue from the pvc cement leaching chemicals into the water after I get it running again or am I just being paranoid.

Your tank can run without a sump. You just need your powerheads to keep flow going. If you needed more then 8 hours without a sump, I would say feed light or skip a feeding. Otherwise your nitrates and phosphates will climb without the help of your sump.

Should I put a heater in the display the longest part of this whole thing is waiting on the glue to cure which says 2 hours I figure the sump will be down for about 4 hours total.

Yea definitely put the heater in there, sorry I didn’t think about it because it’s so hot where I live.

Yeah not super hot here our high today was a fiery 80 degrees and the wife keeps our ac at 68, after working outside all day I feel like I need a parka to be in the house

AC only shuts off for about 15min at a time here. I don’t miss the snow but I do miss going outside hah
Me and the snow have a love hate relationship it’s the only negative side effect to live in the mountains. but I don’t miss the heat and humidity of central Texas enough to leave the snow just yet.

I’d go back to Colorado in a heart beat but as the saying goes, happy wife happy life.
In my house it’s more happy wife the more fish stuff I can buy without getting in to much trouble. I’d rather be on the beach but at least I can bring a little of the beach to the mountains with my tank so I guess fair compromise lol.

I didn't see an answer for the issue about chemicals leaching into your water so I'll answer that. In my experience, I haven't had any issues with chemicals leaching into my water after gluing the plumbing. I've waited at the most, an hour before I started running water through the pipes again and everything was fine. I usually put a new batch of carbon just in case but I dont believe it's needed.

There are plenty of reefers who have only waited 15 min for the solvents to dry and then ran the water through with no issues. I believe once the solvents dry, there is no concern of the chemicals leaching because I believe I read somewhere that they evaporate? Dissipate? I don't remember. But there should be no issues after the required drying period.
