About a month ago, a water supply line in the kitchen busted during the night while we were home and flooded our house. We had water from the far right upper level of the house down to the bottom left garage area. Lost everything in the media room (the 70" 3D TV!), about 400 sqft of hardwood cracked and was ruined, the kitchen flooring (cork) was ruined and the water mitigation company took part of our ceiling in the basement to remove water.
It's been..."fun"...
Shawn, Daniel and Matt have been AMAZING. They are helping me deal with the insurance to get the aquarium moved out of the way so the contractor could replace the hardwood. (insurance paid for all that! YAY!)

Figured since the aquarium was torn apart, I would upgrade the sump tank. The original sump tank came as a package with the stand and canopy from the aquarium store. It has a bioball area that I suspect was the main cause of my 40ppm nitrate level (despite the 40gal water changes per week).

I decided to keep most all of the equipment the same and only change the sump for now.
I have some photos of the old tank/sump attached. The tank is a 125Gallon.
Attached is the new sump design. I added filter socks and a bubble trap and removed the bioball filtration. Perhaps at a later time I will add the old sump tank on the side of it for a refugium or add a media reactor. This sump design is using an old 30 Gallon tank I had for freshwater back in college.

I will add some photos as soon as the tank is installed again. Should be soon! Construction will hopefully be over this Friday. I need to get some glass cut and glued into place in the sump and get some socks ordered in.

Next Reef meeting at my newly renovated house?!!

Pretty much, haha. Been thinking about adding an apex, selling my kessil 350s and buying 360s or radions, adding a media reactor, and converting the old sump into a refugium and live rock rubble.

Also buying rock from Shawn when it all gets installed to make a rock wall, installing a ato system, and adding a ro/di station in my garage.

You might want to check into using concrete and real rock to make you back wall. It is pretty easy and looks really good if you mix the two. If you use a couple specific types of concrete you don't have to cure it for months.

Tomorrow this area is going to have a tank again!
Still working on washing up the old piping and equipment.

Thank you Daniel, Shawn, and Matt for setting up my tank. It looks gorgeous!
Bought some rock from Shawn, and it looks great!
Shawn came through in the nick of time and got me a sump that looks great and I can't wait to see the skimmer finally work.

here is the new sump

The tank is a 125gallon,sump is roughly 45-48gallon. Not exactly sure how much actually went into it after rock and sand were put in.

Do you have a power head in the rocks? If not I'd recommend one, the rocks will hold detritus in them, a power head would help with that.

They did a goodlooking job for ya Nikki, that is a good recommendation to put a small powerhead in the sump,it does keep the build up down thus lowering your chance for Nitrates to build up.
