About a month ago, a water supply line in the kitchen busted during the night while we were home and flooded our house. We had water from the far right upper level of the house down to the bottom left garage area. Lost everything in the media room (the 70" 3D TV!), about 400 sqft of hardwood cracked and was ruined, the kitchen flooring (cork) was ruined and the water mitigation company took part of our ceiling in the basement to remove water.
It's been..."fun"...
Shawn, Daniel and Matt have been AMAZING. They are helping me deal with the insurance to get the aquarium moved out of the way so the contractor could replace the hardwood. (insurance paid for all that! YAY!)
Figured since the aquarium was torn apart, I would upgrade the sump tank. The original sump tank came as a package with the stand and canopy from the aquarium store. It has a bioball area that I suspect was the main cause of my 40ppm nitrate level (despite the 40gal water changes per week).
I decided to keep most all of the equipment the same and only change the sump for now.
I have some photos of the old tank/sump attached. The tank is a 125Gallon.
Attached is the new sump design. I added filter socks and a bubble trap and removed the bioball filtration. Perhaps at a later time I will add the old sump tank on the side of it for a refugium or add a media reactor. This sump design is using an old 30 Gallon tank I had for freshwater back in college.
I will add some photos as soon as the tank is installed again. Should be soon! Construction will hopefully be over this Friday. I need to get some glass cut and glued into place in the sump and get some socks ordered in.
Next Reef meeting at my newly renovated house?!!
