Hey everyone so I'm upgrading from a redsea 170 to a redsea650

I have 80 lbs of life rock coming this week have about 40 lbs currently in my tank with corals and news. I'm getting another 50lbs or filler rock.
My question is I don't have enough drums to make new saltwater. Can I put tye new live sand in aquascape with new rock. Fill the tank with ro and then take some out and mix it in a 30 gallon drum that I have and get the salinity to match my current tank. I'm also going to use fritz turbo 900. Then let it run a week and transfer my current tank rock and water.

So many questions... Do you have your Red Sea 650 all setup and ready to go? Are you phasing out the Red Sea 170 at the same time or keeping it running while you get the 650 going? Other than the live rock from the 170, are you retaining the water, sand (etc.) from it? When is the new rock showing up?

Without knowing any of these it's hard to suggest a course of action - other than your suggestion probably isn't advisable for live rock.

I am using new live sand my plan was to let the 650 run for a week the rock is all new that im getting. I am transferring everything from the 170 into the 650 except the sand. The new rock should be here Wednesday.
