So I am planning to do an upgrade soon from my 36 gallon... I was thinking about getting a 125 gallon to get some bigger fish... would this be a good size? What fish could I put in it? I was hoping tangs and other bigger fish like that but I didn't know if i could do that for sure in a 125... I was thinking this one from pet smart is it good? http://www.petsmart.com/fish/supplies/top-fin-125-gallon-aquarium-ensemble-28286.html?cgid=300002
Or should I just look for one on Craigslist? I know I need a different stand to fit a sump in... should I try to build it or buy one somewhere? Also do I need supports under the house?

Hi. You'd be better off looking for a reef ready tank - that tank is designed for freshwater. It isn't drilled for an overflow/weir and the lighting probably wouldn't be suitable for marine life. Also I can't figure how they say it's 125g with the stated dimensions. It's a 6' tank with a depth of 22" and height just shy of 24"... that's way bigger than 125g. Maybe they have the stand length and tank length round the wrong way, that would bring it in closer (18" instead of 22") You could have tangs if you get a 6' tank.

Craigslist is a good option as you might get other gear such as sump, plumbing etc included, and for cheaper than buying new. But that depends on your budget and how you feel about buying second hand.

Thank you so much! Do you have any other suggestions for fish that would be suitable for a 125?

Is there a reason you've chosen the 125? I personally like a 180 much better and it's only a 6" difference in footprint. The 180 would allow for a lot more fish options IMHO.

I wanted a 6' tank but my LFS said my floors probably couldn't hold more than a 125 and with that I might have to get some kind of support under the house. Also I'm 15 and my mom is hard to convince to get a tank any bigger... I'm not even 100% sure I can get a 125 but she said maybe so I'm looking out right now for 6' tanks and advice for them. Thanks for the reply!

That sounds like a solid reason to stick with a 125 to me. :D

Is this one good?

I can't really comment on local pricing as I'm in Australia, so I can't say if it's a good deal. You would need to find out how old the tank is and inspect the silicon closely before purchasing it. It might clean up ok! I'd consider ditching the glass top, depending on what type of lighting you're thinking of, it might be a heat trap, and can block some of the light.
