Alright y’all, so I’ve had my rsm250 for some time now. I want to upgrade to a 125 gal with a sump. Just wanna hear on how people have upgraded/transferred to a larger tank hassle free. Meaning less stress as possible for livestock. Thanks
If the new tank hasn't been set up yet....the best way is to buy a large vat. Also have several buckets on hand.
Make a lot of extra water. Have it ready and heated. This will be valuable to have around.
Fill the vat and match all the tank chemistry. Temp, salinity, Alk, etc. This is separate from the extra water part. Keep at least 50 gallons of extra on hand.
Siphon out the sand and throw it away. You really need to buy new sand because sand gets super funky. Just take my word on that.
Add some Dr Tim's "one and only" or Fritz to the new tank or vat before you start the transfer.
If the new tank is already up and running and you're not using the vat, make sure the new tank has matching chemistry, temp, etc. Just like the vat.
Then Transfer everything over. Don't forget....siphon out the sand first or it will turn into a large silt storm and you can't see anything. If you can, put some filter socks on the new system to catch all the crap that will be floating around.
Best of luck!
