Upgrading tank, new dry sand, do I rinse?

I currently have a 72 that I have had since November. The tank was established for 2 years prior to me. I'm upgrading to a 125 and purchased some new dry sand. This to be exact

My questions are.

1. Should I rinse the new sand? Pros and cons to rinsing and not rinsing?
2. I'm planning to take some sand from the 72 to place in a fuge area in my new sump, this will be my cheato algea section. I'm planning on rinsing this sand. Should I not rinse the old sand for the sump?

If you have the time, rinse it all. The sand from your tank should ideally be rinsed in saltwater with the same pH and temp as your tank (old tank water works perfect here). The new sand can be rinsed in RO water. You'd want to rinse the old sand to get rid of detrius that has accumulated. Rinse the new sand to get rid of dust and make the transition easier.

Yes to rinsing the new sand. I would rinse with tap water. Using RO water is too expensive to use with the amount of rinsing required IMO. As for the fuge area, I would only keep a cup or two of the old sand rinsed in tank water from the existing tank to seed the new sand bed. Use new sand for the rest. I'm assuming that you are reusing the rock fronm the old system. This will kick start and seed the bio filter.

1. Absolutely rinse! There are no cons to rinsing.
2. Rinse the old sand in some of your tank water.

Yes I'm reusing all the old rock either in the DT or sump. Also planning to use as much water as I can from the 72. I'm not doing a "in-place" swap, but a true upgrade. I'll have the luxury of letting the 125 run side-by-side until I move everything over.

I picked up a big bottle of Brightwell's MicrioBacter today just to help if needed.

Just a thought I upgraded from a 75 to 220 and dosed it with Turbo Start
I'm not kidding when I say this 220 gallon tank cycled in 24 hours
I used all new aragonite for substrate and all new live rock
I got rid of all the old live rock because it was exposed to copper and the new tank will be a reef

I agree with rinsing
The good bacteria that will be lost is easily enough replaced with either the Brightwell that you have or the Turbo Start that I suggested so I'd give the new tank a new healthy start

It's just me but I'd use new water only because the bottles of bacteria that are available today really work
But that's completely up to you, nothing wrong with using old water
