Hey all,

Long time viewer first time poster but I was wondering how I would go about moving my current tank to another. The livestock in the tank I'm trying to move consists of a BTA and a clarkii clown hosting it along with a cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, and purple reef lobster in a 14 gallon tank. Everything was in QT in the tank but I decided to buy another tank to keep everything together since they've all been splendid and am bought a 30 gallon tank to put everything in.

How do I go about setting up the new tank if I want to keep everything the same. Can I use the same sand along with the same rocks and filtration and water to speed up the tank so no cycling occurs or is there a different method.

Thank you in advance.

You can, but I would ditch the old sand and only keep a cup full to seed the new sand. Sand gets really funky so a tank that small probably only needs one bag. It just makes sense to get new sand. Add the rock and old filtration. When you transition everything to the new tank add a bottle of Dr. Tim’s “One and Only” to help with a smooth transition. Also, it would be a great time to do a water change. Keep 70% of the old water and make 30% new water. :)

You can keep and transfer everything to the new tank with no problems. The only thing that I would recommend is getting new sand (20-40 pounds depending on your preference) and as Reefahholic said keep some of the old sand to seed the newer sand. Good luck!
