Upgrading tanks but want to rescape

Hey guys, so upgrading my tank soon,its been running for about 1.5years now, so my aquascape right now isnt to bad but want to do more of a marco flat rock type scape instead of what i have now

Just wondering how i could use all that beneficial bacteria ive accumulated on the rock i have now to make the upgrade smoother, if i must go through the cycle process again then so be it but was thinking i could place my existing rock around the new scape to seed the new rock then take it out after a month or so

Any ideas will be great

How large is your current tank and how many lbs of rock is in there?

I'd say build your new scape, and if you do 2 large builds put in half and leave it for a bit then put in the other. Each time you add a piece of the new scape remove just enough of the old to put in the new. If you can move the pieces of the old scape to the sump instead of completely out of the tank.

My current tank is 3ft 80 gallons (300litres) and has rock going up about halfway, left to right, id estimate 40-60lb roughly (20kg-30kg)

I would try to leave as much as you can in the tank or sump and place the parts of your new scape in the tank with the old. Give it at least 2-4 weeks before removing any more work and adding more new rock.

Now the longer you can leave in the old the better, but I'd wager 2 weeks to be a safe absolute minimum between exchanges. I also wouldn't remove more than half at a time.

Ok awesome, i could always build the new scape the scatter the old rock where ever i can fit it on the sand and whatever is left i cant put it in the sump, then just remove bit by bit until its gone ? Would that work

Yep the more you leave in the better. Same with time. You can even leave a few lbs in the sump permanently if you have the space.
