Upgrading to 120 gallon, stocking wise?

Hey there, upgrading from a 40 gallon breeder reef tank to a 120 gallon 48x24x24 and i plan to grab some new fish that i couldnt have before comfortably.
These are my fish now
3 Chalk Bass
1 yellow watchman and pistol
1 diamond watchman
1 regular clown
1 tailspot blenny
1 conch
1 skunk cleaner shrimp
1 blood red cleaner shrimp


Sooo as any hobbyist i have always looked at different fish when im bored. I do have a couple fish in mind to add.
I want to add a valentini puffer or blue spotted puffer which i know will kill CUC and might nip corals. Its a hit or miss from what i read.

another fish i want to add is a ornate leopard wrasse or regular leopard wrasse. Im not sure the difference and i do know that they are very sensitive and extra care must be taken.

third fish i know i want is a frostbite or black ice clown for my clown i have now.


I dont know much about tangs and angels but alot seem to be coral eaters or aggressive.
I do want some fish that are larger or that i could have never had in the 40 gal.
I like how kole tangs look in person but i read they are hard to care for.

I like colorful fish that dont mind humans or jump into a hide. As you can see i have some of those.

Yes they mix quit well. I'm planning 8+ wrasses in my 125g once I'm done. A combo of all 3 mentioned. Check out Evolved's articles in the fish section.

I've got a chainlink eel, red firefish, carpenter's flasher wrasse, and a yellow tail blue damsel at the moment. Still looking at other fish besides wrasses but will have some.

Tangs won't bother your coral! if you choose the right ones they will be really hardy in your tank

Leopards can be sensitive their first few weeks. They don't handle shipping well, and often have internal parasites. But after the first few weeks they can be quite hardy.

As previously suggested, fairy and flasher wrasses are great.

Angels of the genus Genicanthus are reef safe.

Good tang options include kole, tomini, yellow, and purple.

Other good options include flame or longnose hawkfish, purple tilefish, jawfish, pink square or bimac anthias.

We have your same dimensions but this stocking list doesn't work for everyone. Some of these fish we have had for 3 years or more. Make sure you have a really good skimmer and flow. I have made a lot of caves and tunnels for the fish.

1 scotts fairy wrasse
1 frostbite clown

i also wouldnt mind having a flame hawkfish

and add second to last leopard wrasse

and if i can find a good one, blue spotted puffer or valentini.


i think it should work depending on skimmer and aquascape

side note i love the purple tangs but the price tang would make it a fish far far down the road.

o wow, didnt know that. i just liked the color, it was scotts fairy or a carpenter wrasse or mystery wrasse for the second wrasse

Mystery wrasses can get aggressive too.

Pink margin (c. rubmarginatus) would be a good 1 to look at as well.
