First time posting, always enjoy learning from everyone else's questions, anyways.....

Looking for some opinions, I'm going to be upgrading in the near future to a 150G rimless planet aquarium 60x24.5x25.5 tank being a mixed reef. I'm in the process and ready to purchase wave makers and return pump but I'm unsure of the actual flow rate needed. I've been down the road of upgrading and downgrading pumps/powerheads and I'd like to get it right the first time this time haha.

I currently have a 57 gallon mixed reef tank (lps, sps, and softies) that's been running for 3 years. Researching comes up with equations like 20 to 40 x's tank volume etc. etc. If I add up all my flow in my current tank I'm way over that and I feel like what I currently run is adequate for the livestock. Needless to say I'm confused as to how much flow should actually be in this new 150 gallon setup I'm planning. If I do the "20 to 40 x's tank volume" I wouldn't hardly have any flow in my current tank.

Current 57G tank:
1x Rio 2500 return pump (782gph)
1x Jebao CP-25 (max 3300gph)
2x Jebao PP8 (max 2100gph)

I run all the wave makers at about 75%, return pump has about 5' of head height. Total gph averages out to approx. lets say 6600gph. That's 115 times my tank volume??? Like I said, doesn't jive to me, maybe I'm being dumb.

After doing some research I was thinking about possibly purchasing the following equipment for the new 150 build. Just looking for some clarity and opinions.
1x Jebao CP-150 (max 6000gph)
2x Jeboa RW-20 (max 5283gph)
return pump around 1500-2000gph (will have around 5' of head height)

Open to suggestions and opinions, thank you in advance for reading

Flow is ALL about the type of coral you have or plan to have.... not the size of the tank.

I understand that. Every tank is different. Any thoughts on the wave maker and pump selection listed above for a mixed reef including sps?
