Hi everyone,

So i currently have the biocube 29ga and I'm planning on going to a big bigger tank. I'm thinking the Nuvo 40ga... My question is how would I go about transferring my rocks and fish? Would the new tank have to cycle first ? Thanks !!

i added more rock to one of my systems with no issues. No spike or anything. For the move, you can put your existing pieces in a tote or bucket. If you plan on using the same sand and LR you should have no issues. Let Lloyd the sand settle before you add the rock and coral. And make shire you account for temp and current in your temporary storage.

totes and buckets work great. i've also used my ice chest since its insulated. gives you more time to aquascape the new tank without worrying about temp issues with your livestock

Thanks for the replies!! So if done correctly I shouldn't experience a cycle correct? I'm going to transfer all my water from the 29ga and top it off with new salt water ?

Premix water and let settle first. But, no, you should not have any crazy swings. Try to surround new rock with old. That way it's not all white too.

I set my new 90g up across the room from my Biocube. I got it fully setup and cycled with 60lb of new dry rock. Once fully cycled I began moving over the pieces a few at a time from my BC....took about a week total so that everything had time to find a place in the new tank where it was happy.

I upgraded from a 75 to a 150 and never got a hint of a cycle. I laced my new sand with 2 cups of old and fed lightly for a few weeks and I added a bottle of bacteria for good measure

I'm planning on using all my old live rock from the biocube and some of my old sand. What's the best way to clean it?

Also, once I put the sand and my old rock how soon can I move the fish over to the new tank? Thanks again for the help!

Ok dumb question.... I purchased the 45 ga and I would like to test for leaks. Can I fill with tap water for now ? I don't want to waste salt water just for testing leaks being that I am not ready to do the transfer yet

I am on currently moving standard 29g to Nuvo40. I got a new live sand and use some of the live rocks from the 29g. It did have a small cycle for me. Just to be safe I'd check Ammonia levels.
My plans are. I will take some of the water from the 29g and move it to the 40g then transfer all the livestock.

You can just let it air dry.

I did this once and didn't use my old sand just the tank water and rock and I had hardly any spikes that would be dangerous. I might have gotten lucky. Also having extra water and a bottle of dr tims bacteria on hand isn't a bad idea if you choose not to use the old sand.
