Hello fellow reefers,

Finally upgrading my 14g AIO to a custom built 45g display with sump, which will be ready to collect in 3 weeks.
The new tank will be going where the old tank is, should I cycle the new tank first or can I add everything over from the old tank straight away? Will be getting new sand and adding more life rock to the new tank.

Thanks in advance

Dom

If the rock is live, you can transfer immediately, matching salinity and temperature. If the rock is not live and needs to be cycled or needs to be cured, do that first, then transfer over once both tanks can independently support life and not pollute your water.

Setup, use existing and even additional live rock, add Dr. Tims one and only bacteria or Fritz turbo zyme 1000 and then add remaining tank contents. I would not add additional livestock for 2-3 weeks feeding sparingly and monitoring tank parameters every 3 days for 2 weeks to assure tank is stable

Thank you, should I also add water from old tank?

I’m transferring from a 55 gallon to a 180 using new uncured rock, new sand, and adding all my existing live rock, water, fish and corals. As well as much live water from the LFS as I can carry. (Probably around 75 gallons of live from LFS)
Would you recommend this same switch over method?

Pretty much Cured rock and bacteria supplement will play a key role in seasoning tank
