Upgrading!!!

Hello everyone,

Not sure where to post this, so putting this in here. Wondering how you guys upgrade tanks. I'm planning to move my 20g to a 40g. Do you cycle the 40g completely as a new tank? I was considering treating it as a water change. Such as keep the old water, liverock, filters, etc and just add another half to fill the 40g. Ofcourse livestock would be separated and acclimated, or would you fo everything in one go?

Even moving everything over, you can expect at least a mini cycle. It should cycle quicker though. Corals may react in some way to the upgrade. Unless you already have another established tank to put the corals in, they may loose a little color or brown out a little. I plan on upgrading at the end of the year also. I will probably build a long term temp tank to house my corals in hoping they don't go thru to much stress. Good Luck on the upgrade.
