I have some intermittent gurgling noise coming out of my overflow for my upper tank. If I slow the amount of water going to the tank this stops. However, I would prefer to have some decent tank water turn over. Was thinking about increasing the air hole size. Would that help with the gurgling?

Thanks for looking.

Is the water surging?

If you open the hole, it may stop it but if this just started happening, the issue may be restriction in the pipes from algea. I would punch the bore first.

Quick fix is opening the hole Slightly.
Sure is. I opened mine slightly and it fixed the issue. In reality, the replacement for the topper is under $2 so if doesn't work or you open the hole too much, go get another from your local hardware store and drill again. All good.

The water line is likely below the overflow hole. You may need to either increase pump flow to tank or decrease the rush of water going into sump.
Drilling a small hole in the cap of overflow will create a siphon stop and muffle it a little

I put foam in the cap as a air filter for the durso, and drill the hole for perfect flow. One could use a 1/4 gate valve and adjust as needed.

Its just a air adjustment that makes the durso quiet

You are using a single open standpipe as a drain. This is fine and reliable, but has flow limitations. If the flow is slow enough, the water will drop down the edges of the pipe silently. If the the flow is too high, there is too much water dropping down the pipe which pulls air with it, which is the gurgling sound you hear.

The best way to fix the sound in your case is to slow the pump down, as you have found. By all means, make sure the drain is clean. And if you want to try to mess with the air hole, sure, you may get lucky.

Do NOT attempt to run a siphon on that drain without an additional emergency drain in place.
